DM Hall partners with homeless charity

DM Hall has announced Homeless Project Scotland as a new corporate charity partner.

The partnership reflects DM Hall‘s ongoing commitment to supporting organisations delivering vital services within Scotland’s communities, particularly those operating on the frontline with limited resources.

Homeless Project Scotland is a volunteer-led charity that provides nightly support. Operating a soup kitchen every evening on Glassford Street in Glasgow, the charity feeds a daily total of around 500 people. It has recently expanded into an indoor food kitchen and shelter but continues to operate without formal funding, relying entirely on donations and volunteers.

In addition to food provision, the charity offers free haircuts, showers, clean clothing, and laundry facilities, as well as emergency accommodation support. Women and children are prioritised, with families referred to social services for urgent housing.

Each night, the team supports around 60 people seeking accommodation, despite having only 33 beds, working closely with a solicitor to secure temporary hotel accommodation while longer-term housing solutions are pursued.

DM Hall’s marketing manager, Stephanie Stewart, said, “When we met Homeless Project Scotland, it became clear immediately just how stretched the organisation is and how critical its work has become. Despite having no formal funding, the volunteers provide dignity, warmth and support to hundreds of people every single night.

“What really struck us was how even relatively small contributions – basic crockery, hygiene items or food donations – can make an immediate and tangible difference. As a business with offices across Scotland, we have an opportunity to collectively support this remarkable charity in a very practical way.”

As part of the partnership, DM Hall plans to introduce weekly donation initiatives across its offices, encouraging staff to contribute food staples and hygiene products. The firm will also provide crockery and cutlery for the shelter, and fundraise towards the purchase of a commercial dishwasher.

John McHugh, managing partner at DM Hall, added, “Although Homeless Project Scotland is operating at breaking point, it continues to support people with compassion, dignity and determination.

“The scale of homelessness in our cities is deeply troubling, and organisations like this are stepping in where help is urgently needed.

“By appointing Homeless Project Scotland as a charity partner, we want to offer hands-on, meaningful support and to involve our people directly. Even small actions, when multiplied across our business, can have a significant impact.”

The charity is run entirely by volunteers, with 15 to 20 people giving their time every night, alongside teams who collect surplus food from local businesses during the day. Weekly and monthly costs are substantial, including thousands of pounds having to be spent on food ingredients and essential supplies.

Welcoming the partnership, Colin McInnes, chief executive of Homeless Project Scotland, commented, “We are sincerely grateful to DM Hall for choosing to support us. Demand for our services has risen sharply, and we are seeing more people than ever needing food, shelter and guidance just to survive.

“This partnership will make a real difference, not just through fundraising but through practical support and engagement. Knowing that a business like DM Hall understands the urgency of the situation and is willing to stand alongside us means a great deal to our volunteers and the people we support every night.”
