Contractor begins work on new student apartments in Edinburgh

AKP has started work on a project to transform existing commercial space in Edinburgh’s old town to increase student accommodation provider Student Roost’s offering in the city.

The accommodation at Panmure Court offers residents a self-contained studio apartment, described as a ‘home away from home feeling but with the student vibe’.

Located minutes from the Royal Mile, akp has been tasked with enhancing the four-storey development and repurposing vacant ground floor space to create nine additional studio apartments.

Anticipated completion is mid-summer, and the contract involves demolition, refurbishment and fit-out of the existing commercial space, façade alterations and new M&E throughout.

App will be working on the project alongside 56three, David Adamson & Partners and Will Rudd Davidson.

Moira Murdoch, commercial director at akp Scotland, said, “The studios being formed for the students are going to be a fantastic addition to the Student Roost portfolio. The introduction of bathroom pods into the spaces ensures that the on-site duration is kept to a minimum and ensures a homogenous and streamlined installation. I wish such modern accommodation had been available all those years ago when I was a student.”
