Jones Bros marks construction milestone at £400m Sanquhar II Wind Farm

ALL 44 turbine foundations are now complete at the £400 million Sanquhar II Wind Farm, which spans Dumfries and Galloway and East Ayrshire.

Jones Bros Civil Engineering is main contractor on the project which, once completed, will be the fourth largest wind farm in the UK and have capacity to power over 335,000 homes annually.

Supported by Cambrian Services, Jones Bros successfully completed the pours. All concrete was produced on site, which helped reduce vehicle movements, fuel consumption, and associated emissions, while also streamlining delivery.

Jones Bros senior contracts manager, David Nicolson said, “The completion of all 44 turbine foundations, on time and on budget, marks the culmination of a substantial programme of civil engineering works. Delivering this successfully has depended on the expertise and commitment of our site teams, alongside effective planning and coordination throughout the construction process.

“Our on-site batching has helped us manage the demands of the foundation pours, improving efficiency and reducing vehicle movements associated with concrete deliveries. It’s rewarding to reach this milestone and see the progress being made at Sanquhar II Wind Farm.”

The completed foundations have paved the way for the installation of the UK’s most powerful onshore wind turbine. The three-bladed V162-6.2MW EnVentus model, the only one of its kind installed to date in the UK, is designed to harness the high wind speeds across southern Scotland.

Turbine installation is ongoing, with first power from Sanquhar II expected in late 2026.

Rod Wood MBE, MD of CWP Energy, added, “Reaching the final concrete pour is a significant milestone for the Sanquhar II Wind Farm project. With 44 turbine foundations now completed, it is testament to the hard work, expertise, and collaboration of everyone involved. We’d like to thank Jones Bros and all our project partners for their commitment in helping bring this important renewable energy scheme a step closer to completion.”
