Highland railway station set for £8m project

Network Rail

AN £8 million project is underway to improve accessibility for passengers at Dalwhinnie Railway Station.

The Network Rail project will see the delivery of a new crossover, which will allow trains to move between tracks – allowing northbound services to use Platform 1 when passengers require step-free access.

The new infrastructure will also improve the reliability and resilience of the railway and provide additional flexibility for freight services, supporting the efficient movement of goods across Scotland’s railway.

To allow engineers to carry out the work safely and efficiently, the line will be closed at Dalwhinnie from October 30 to November 2 and from Friday November to 9.

During these weekends, engineers will install and commission the new infrastructure, including renewed track and signalling equipment. Around 400 yards of track will be renewed, while ageing signalling equipment will be replaced with new colour light signals.

Gary Hopkirk, route director at Network Rail Scotland, said, “It’s great to see this work progressing and we’re looking forward to delivering a better, more accessible railway for passengers at Dalwhinnie.

“We really appreciate everyone’s patience while the work continues and look forward to passengers and freight customers feeling the benefits once it’s complete.”
