Ground investigation works to start on Tayinloan/Gigha ferry route

GROUND investigation and survey works are to begin on the Tayinloan/Gigha ferry route in Argyll and Bute later this month.

The work, which will be led by Causeway Geotech, is to prepare for improvements to the infrastructure at the pier and slipway required to accommodate new vessels that will be introduced as part of Transport Scotland’s small vessel replacement project.

Works will be staged, and include:

  • Geophysical and bathymetric surveys by Aspect Surveys. These works will be daytime only, for one week. The survey equipment is towed behind a small boat
  • Borehole works from jack-up barge. These will be 24/7 operations, for two-and-a-half weeks
  • Vibrocores, grab samples and drop down video will be undertaken from a multi-cat vessel. These will also be 24/7 operations, for one week.
