LEGAL firm Lindsays has announced it has strengthened its support for Scotland’s construction sector with the appointment of a new director.
Michael Kitson will be advising developers, contractors and funders involved in a range of building projects across the country.
Lindsays said his arrival comes amid ‘growing optimism of growth’ throughout the sector this year, with hopes that anticipated falls in interest rates will fuel development opportunities.
With 14 years of experience – most recently with BTO – Mr Kitson is now part of Lindsays’ commercial property team, based in Edinburgh.
He said, “I am excited to get started and to begin the new year with a fresh challenge. Being part of the team at Lindsays offers me new opportunities and to enjoy the culture that the firm offers, having heard so many good things about it.
“The challenges which have faced the construction sector in recent years are no secret, but things are expected to get better for the industry this year. Good advice on how to structure and approach projects from a legal perspective can make a real difference in ensuring that emerging opportunities can be fully realised.
“Many are anticipating an increase in activity across the commercial property industry, particularly if interest rates continue to ease. That will create extra work for the construction and property sectors.”
Specialist Lindsays lawyers advise developers, contractors and funders on the full spectrum of property and construction legal matters.
Derek Nash, partner and head of commercial property, added, “It is a pleasure to welcome Michael to the team. For all parties, financial risk in construction can be a real challenge. One size does not fit all in the approach to managing this and so much else. It is important that robust contracts – specific to the detail of every project – are in place.
“Michael’s experience across a range of sectors and project types will bring real benefits to the clients we advise to ensure that they are in the best possible position to both safeguard themselves and the developments in which they are involved.”
