THE JR Group has welcomed representatives from the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity to its The Albion site in Ibrox to deliver a talk on the importance of mental health and wellbeing.
The Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity provides dedicated emotional, physical, and financial wellbeing support to construction workers and their families.
Two members of the charity’s Make It Visible team visited the Glasgow construction site to speak to around 50 members of staff and subcontractors, encouraging them to feel more comfortable discussing their mental health and highlighting positive mental health and wellbeing practices.
Following the talk, health and safety manager Jim Smith and site managers across The JR Group rolled out Toolbox Talks across all of the firm’s active sites, speaking to teams, suppliers, and subcontractors about this vital topic.
The talks also marked the launch of the charity’s first-ever Wear Purple Week, which took place from June 15-19. Team members across The JR Group’s sites donned purple hi-vis vests and clothing to raise mental health awareness, as well as funds for the charity.
The firm rounded off the week by hosting a Lighthouse Charity coffee morning at its Paisley HQ. The team prepared hot drinks and cakes, inviting colleagues to come together for conversations about mental health and the services provided by the Lighthouse Charity. The event was also attended by the charity’s Lead partnership manager, Nicola Campbell.
Following the packed week, Jim Smith said, “It’s vital that workers within the construction industry don’t feel pressured to remain silent about issues regarding their own mental health or the wellbeing of a colleague. At The JR Group, we’re proud to encourage a supportive community for everyone working out on our sites and in our office, and we’re grateful to the Lighthouse Charity for providing its expert support in helping us create a positive environment with wellbeing at its core.”
