LOCALS in Rothesay are reaping the rewards from a range of local initiatives hosted by Robertson Construction Central West, Argyll and Bute Council has said.
The firm is the main contractor on a project to transform the 1938 Rothesay Pavilion into an entertainment, events, business venue, as well as a community hub for local people and visitors to Bute.
Argyll and Bute Council has a commitment to delivering wider benefits for its communities when it awards a contract, with it working closely with contractors to deliver additional social, economic, and environmental value to local communities.
Robertson Construction Central West has been praised by the local authority for its delivery of several ‘tremendous’ local benefits. This includes employing a local site supervisor and local teleporter operator, as well as taking on local labour temporarily.
The firm has also opened business accounts with local suppliers; utilised Bute Blacksmiths for major works throughout the project; supplied a local nursery with hi-viz vests and is creating an outside stage for children to do displays on; engaged with and donated to the local food bank and is installing a handrail in the back shop; the project manager has volunteered his services to advise on the installation of a play area along the front for Rothesay BID; and hand delivered local newsletters to neighbours and supplied them with timber and small items of building materials.
Argyll and Bute Council’s policy lead for islands, councillor Liz McCabe, said, “The Rothesay Pavilion project is of huge significance to everyone on Bute, and Robertson Construction Central West is doing a tremendous job in helping to bring it back into use. The company has embedded itself in the local community and has gone above and beyond to support local businesses and give something back. The range of benefits that Robertson has already provided speaks for itself and I would like to thank them on behalf of the local community.”
Andy McLinden, regional MD of Robertson Construction Central West, added, “Working closely with Argyll and Bute Council we have been identifying initiatives that they already have running where we can lend support, but also looking at other activities where we can add tangible social impact. Our team has received a warm welcome to Bute, and we are delighted to be working with local suppliers, local workforce and assisting across the wider community. Being a responsible neighbour and creating positive impact is all part of what we do.”
