CONSTRUCTION has started on what has been called the largest ever offsite project in the education sector.
The Portakabin Group is the main contractor on a three-school campus scheme for the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham.
The £44 million Riverside Schools project is using a a Yorkon offsite solution for the 23,000sqm campus, which will provide places for 2,645 children on a six hectare site.
The schools will be constructed from 387 steel-framed modules, craned in over two phases. The largest module will be 18.75m long and weigh 20 tonnes.
The development will provide facilities for nursery, primary, special needs, secondary, and sixth form pupils.
