STEEL is being erected on site as Robertson Group marks a major milestone in its build of the new Hazlehead Academy Campus in Aberdeen.
Around 80 truckloads of steel are due to be delivered to the site as work continues on the new £124 million campus. Construction began in March 2026, with it scheduled to be operational in August 2028.
The new campus is being built on the playing fields of the existing school, allowing Hazlehead Academy to remain fully operational throughout the construction period. Demolition of the existing school and completion of external sporting facilities is expected by summer 2029, Aberdeen City Council said.
Councillor Martin Greig, convener of Aberdeen City Council’s education and children’s services committee, said, “Seeing the steel framework progressing is an exciting milestone and allows people to appreciate the scale of the new Hazlehead Academy Campus taking shape. This significant investment in our school estate will create a modern, high-quality learning environment where future generations of young people can thrive, supporting learning, achievement and wellbeing.”
Ewen Fowlie, operations director for hub North Scotland, commented, “The start of erecting steel work is a hugely significant milestone for this project as you can physically see the new campus building taking shape. This will be a transformational project for staff, pupils and the general public for generations to come.”

When complete, the campus will have capacity for up to 1,600 pupils and will feature two full-size all-weather pitches and an athletics sprint track. It will also serve an expanded catchment area including Hazlehead, Countesswells, and Kingswells communities.
