THE Highland Council has hailed the impact of the Highland Trusted Trader scheme as it celebrates its first anniversary.
Members of the scheme undergo an independent vetting process which includes checks on trading history, business practices, customer service standards, and legal compliance – as well as agreeing to abide by a code of practice that promotes honesty, integrity, and fair trading.
Since launching in September 2025, the trusted trader scheme has 19 vetted members listed and a further 12 businesses progressing through the application and vetting process. Members include electrical, plumbing and heating, roofing, joinery, decorating, pest control, timber preservation, and renewable energy businesses.
During its first year, the scheme generated 208 published customer reviews – with an average rating of 4.75 out of 5. Customers regularly praised member businesses for their professionalism, communication, reliability, and customer service.
Councillor Paul Oldham, chair of the Highland Council corporate resources committee, said, “Highland Trusted Trader continues to provide an important service for consumers across the Highlands, giving them greater confidence when selecting local businesses. During its first year, the scheme has established a growing network of vetted traders and demonstrated the value of bringing together consumer protection and business support. We look forward to seeing the scheme continue to grow and support both consumers and local businesses in the years ahead.”
