Work to create the Stockwell Street avenue in Glasgow is to get underway on August 10.
The avenue will be created on the stretch of Stockwell Street between Trongate and Bridgegate and work will take place in three phases, with the first between Trongate and Osborne Street; the second between Bridgegate and Howard Street; and the third between Howard Street and Osborne Street.
The work will deliver resurfaced roads, new pavements featuring Caithness stone, trees and raingardens between Bridgegate and Howard Street, upgraded traffic signals, and a two-way segregated cycleway.
Councillor Angus Millar, convener for city centre recovery at Glasgow City Council, said, “The Stockwell Street Avenue will not only help to make this part of the city centre a more attractive place for all who live, work and visit there, but also improve the connections for people traveling in different ways to and from the city centre. The investment in this Avenue mirrors the developments taking place and planned in this historic part of Glasgow. We have already been engaging with residents and business about the works to deliver this new Avenue, and we’ll continue to keep everyone up to date on its progress.”
The project is expected to be completed in late 2027, Glasgow City Council said.
