Work to breathe new life into Cowdenbeath Town House gathers pace

Cowdenbeath Town House

FIFE Council has revealed that progress is being made to bring Cowdenbeath Town House back to life, as work continues to transform the historic building into a community space.

All surveys have been completed and work on site is underway. Contractor Linear Design & Construct is making progress inside the building, where strip‑out work is now finished along with repairs to damaged timber beams. The first phase of electrical work has begun.

Over the coming weeks, there will be more visible changes as the project moves into its next stage. Scaffolding will be placed around the outside of the building to allow repair work to proceed. Inside, work will continue, including installing a new attic floor, plastering and decorating, as well as joinery and further electrical and mechanical tasks.

Councillor Altany Craik, spokesperson – finance, economy & strategic planning, said, “It’s fantastic to see real progress at Cowdenbeath Town House. This building means a great deal to local people, and it’s exciting to see it being brought back into use. Step by step, we’re creating a space that will be welcoming, inclusive and full of opportunities for the community. We’re looking forward to seeing it take shape over the coming months.”

When complete, the Town House will be run by BRAG Enterprises. It will provide enterprise office space as well as a range of community‑focused services including a café, meeting and event spaces, and a community radio station. The venue will also be available for wedding ceremonies. The heritage of the town and its people will be showcased with pictures and displays.

The project partners – Fife Council, HubCo, Linear Design & Construct and BRAG Enterprises – will continue to keep the community updated as work moves forward.
