HMP Perth’s employability academy has helped a number of individuals secure employment in the construction sector.
Ran in collaboration with industry, the academy provides hands-on training to individuals in custody to gain industry-recognised qualifications and routes into employment upon release.
To date, 11 individuals have attained Level 5 Civil Engineering qualifications, with several progressing into further education and four securing employment – with the Scottish Prison Service working in collaboration with CECA.
Also seeing success in hospitality and mechanics, the programme has been praised for its structured approach. Through collaboration with community partners, individuals are able to continue receiving support beyond custody – ensuring those who complete the academy are well positioned to sustain employment and make positive progress.
Partners include Perth and Kinross Council, Dundee City Council, Dundee and Angus College, Fife College, South Lanarkshire College, Toyota, CECA, Greene King, and Dundee and Angus Cycle Hub and Only a Pavement Away.
HMP Perth said, “Together, these partnerships are helping to create positive futures, reduce reoffending, and build stronger communities.”
