THE growing West Lothian community of Winchburgh has welcomed a new bridge adjacent to its canalside marina that will connect the heart of the community to a planned new leisure space, Daisy Park.
Works around the bridge will be completed this autumn, allowing access from the canal towpath to the marina and the emerging town centre.
On the opposite side of the marina, plans are in place for waterside leisure development. Just beyond, and bordering the arterial route Duntarvie Castle Road, a housing development proposed by Lovell would include 39 affordable housing units.
John Hamilton, CEO of Winchburgh Developments Ltd (WDL), which leads the masterplan for Winchburgh, said, “Welcoming people into the heart of Winchburgh, while also encouraging residents of our community to easily access greenspace along the Union Canal, just became much easier with the installation of this new bridge. Improving access will benefit the town centre in the long-term and adds to our excellent links for those walking and wheeling in the community.”
The growth of Winchburgh continues at pace – with 1,700 occupied new properties amid plans for a total of 4,000 in the next decade. John Hamilton says the development stands apart from similar projects in Scotland as it blends a diverse mix of housing types with the creation of desirable amenities and infrastructure. Auldcathie Park runs through the heart of the community and borders the emerging town centre, home to a Sainsbury’s superstore and Scotland’s newest marina, which hosts tourists visiting by narrowboat via the Union Canal and people pursuing watersports. Four new schools and a new junction connecting the M9 motorway are also major draws.
