GEORGE Leslie has been named in the Sunday Times Scotland Fast 50 after more than doubling its turnover in the last five years.
The Barrhead civil engineering contractor employs over 400 people in Scotland and has seen its turnover rise from £45 million in 2019 to over £100 million last year. Growth has been driven by a steady expansion of its client base and services, spanning water, marine, structural repairs and increasingly, power and renewables.
The Fast 50 list highlights Scotland’s top-performing private businesses across a range of sectors, measured by sustained revenue growth. Founded in 1964 in the back room of George Leslie Snr’s home, the business has evolved from modest beginnings into a multi-disciplinary civil engineering contractor.
Recent work includes the completion of a £32.5 million package of works for CMAL to strengthen harbours at Kennacraig, Colonsay, and Port Askaig for the arrival of new CalMac ferries. The company has also secured a place on Scottish Power’s Substation Strategic framework and is delivering projects in energy infrastructure and storage.
David Ross, George Leslie MD, said, “Being named on the first Sunday Times Scotland Fast 50 is a real honour and the credit sits squarely with our people.
“The board has nurtured and guided George Leslie, enhancing our reputation, but it is the trust and confidence that our staff and clients place in us to deliver that matters most. Our passion, collaboration and togetherness are what help us deliver for Scotland.
“2026 marks our 62nd year in business and in that time, we have seen Scotland flourish, with massive investment in infrastructure. At George Leslie, we are proud of our Scottish roots and our heritage, and remain grateful for the loyalty of our skilled workforce, delivering essential infrastructure projects for the people of Scotland.
“We are honoured to be part of The Sunday Times Scotland Fast 50, sharing the accolade with so many outstanding Scottish businesses. The success of these companies highlights that Scotland continues to be an attractive place to start and grow a business.”
