A 19-year-old apprentice from Inverness has been named Apprentice of the Year at Dundee and Angus College.

Lewis Scobbie, who works for Macleod Roofing whilst completing his apprenticeship through CITB, received the award in recognition of his ‘outstanding’ attitude, consistency, and commitment to learning.

He began his four-year SCQF Level 6 apprenticeship in April 2024 and has already completed his second year of college work ahead of schedule. The award was presented following consistent feedback on Lewis’ approach both in classroom and throughout his training

Patrick McCagh, lecturer at Dundee and Angus College, said, “Lewis has demonstrated a strong willingness to develop his skills, always showing enthusiasm and a genuine desire to improve. Throughout the programme, he maintained a positive mindset and never complained, even when faced with challenges.

“He is also highly supportive of others, regularly offering help to his peers and contributing to a positive team environment. His work ethic, attitude, and commitment to both his own development and the success of those around him made him a standout candidate for this recognition. He was a pleasure to teach.”

Gillian McKenzie, apprenticeship development officer at CITB, added, “Lewis shows the same level of commitment on site as he does in college. His attitude towards learning and improving is exactly what we want to see in apprentices coming into the industry, and he continues to build on that as he progresses through his training.”

Alan Campbell, operations manager at Macleod Roofing, commented, “This is a fantastic achievement for Lewis and one we’re all really proud of. To complete his second year ahead of schedule shows the level of effort he’s putting in day to day.

“At Macleod Roofing, we place a real focus on developing people and creating opportunities within the Highlands. Lewis is a great example of what can be achieved with the right attitude, and we’re looking forward to supporting him as he continues his career with us.”
