MACKINNON Memorial Hospital in Broadford, Isle of Skye, is to be demolished, The Highland Council has announced.
The news comes following the transfer of the site from NHS Highland to the local authority, with demolition work due to commence this month. The Mackinnon Memorial Hospital site has been empty since the opening of the new Broadford Hospital in 2022.
Early stage discussions have taken place between the council, NHS Highland, and the Mackinnon Memorial Hospital Working Group regarding the cleared site being used for accommodation opportunities for staff working in health and social care.
Richard MacDonald, NHS Highland’s director of estates, facilities, and capital planning, said, “We’re delighted to be working with MacKinnon Memorial Hospital Working Group looking at the provision of healthcare accommodation as part of the development, and exploring other opportunities that can arise as part of the project going forward.”
