SPECIALIST built environment PR company Building Relations PR and environmental networking platform Sustainabuild have won the Best Sustainable Marketing Initiative category at this year’s Construction and Marketing Awards (CMA Awards).
The organisations were recognised for their work on promoting net zero ambitions in the construction industry.
Sustainabuild has grown from a small Edinburgh meet-up into a UK-wide sustainability network. Building Relations PR has supported the launch and growth of the brand and its Scottish event programme through press releases, podcasts, design of visual materials, social media campaigns, media coverage, and in-person event planning in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee and London.
Rachel Colgan, founding director at Building Relations PR, said, “Over the past few years, Building Relations PR has proactively taken steps to work with our clients to prioritise sustainable building practises, alongside actively seeking and winning new business within the construction sector that aligns with our sustainability values. Our partnership with Sustainabuild embodies our efforts in ESG communications and, having built much of this work in Scotland, we are incredibly proud to be recognised as winners at this year’s CMA Awards.”
Matt Colgan, founder of Sustainabuild, added, “Our partnership with Building Relations PR demonstrates what can be achieved through industry collaboration and complementary expertise. Sustainabuild began in Scotland and it’s been rewarding to see the network expand across the UK, bringing together sustainability-focused professionals from across the construction sector to reduce our industry’s carbon emissions. Whether this be through our events, podcasts or industry roundtables, we are pleased that our hard work has been recognised with this award.
“The construction industry continues to face pressures, whether this be through skills shortages or financial constraints. It’s important that through these times we remember that what we build now will serve future generations and by building better we have the opportunity to set new standards that will mean our sector working in tandem with the needs of people, planet and business.”
With support from its PR partner, Sustainabuild launched its first Breakfast Club events in Edinburgh, inviting professionals from local authorities, education, architecture, interior design, engineering, construction firms and developers to share environmental best practice. A programme of expert speakers, CPD opportunities, and time to collaborate over coffee established the sessions as a valued fixture within the built environment community.
The popularity of these events led to expansion into Glasgow and Dundee, alongside larger assembly meetings and a growing online network nationwide.
David Pead, director at CMA Awards, commented, “Congratulations to Building Relations PR and Sustainabuild on their win for Best Sustainable Marketing Initiative. In our 25th year, the judges were looking for authentic sustainability stories backed by measurable impact, and this campaign impressed our client-side panel with a clear strategy and demonstrable results.”
