CIVIL, structural and conservation engineering firm, Will Rudd, has revealed details of its role in supporting Taylor Wimpey East Scotland in starting the delivery of the Dolphingstone masterplan near Wallyford.
Will Rudd was appointed to provide roads and drainage engineering for the masterplan, which will see up to 700 homes built across multiple phases.
A key challenge involved designing a large-scale detention basin – over 10,000 m³ – to manage surface water, which required close coordination with partners.
Craig Johnston, associate at Will Rudd Edinburgh, said, “Working closely with Taylor Wimpey East Scotland and the team at I&H Brown on groundworks, we have been able to deliver infrastructure to unlock capacity for up to 700 homes in Wallyford, East Lothian. The scale and complexity of the work required close collaboration with Scottish Water to address the size of the detention basin for attenuating surface water. Using a bespoke approach, we were able to successfully achieve the required consents to allow this project to go ahead.”
Jason Longstaff, senior engineer at Taylor Wimpey East Scotland, added, “The complex drainage infrastructure for our development in Dolphinstone required specialist expertise, and Craig and the Will Rudd team provided valuable insights. Our collaboration with them will enable us to deliver essential new homes in Wallyford to help address the national housing shortage.”
