COMPASS Building and Construction Services has secured the contract to deliver restoration work on the Sir Hector MacDonald Memorial Tower in Dingwall.
The Highland Council and Dingwall Community Development Company project will include roof works, internal steelwork, floor supports, and electrical upgrades throughout the B-listed building.
The tower was built between 1904 and 1907 in memory of Sir Hector MacDonald, who was born in the nearby Black Isle. He enlisted as a private in the Gordon Highlanders at age 17 in 1870, before eventually becoming a major general.
Councillor Graham MacKenzie, chair of the Dingwall and Seaforth Area Committee, said, “I am delighted that work is due to get underway on the Sir Hector MacDonald Memorial Tower which is iconic to both Dingwall and its residents.
“This marks a significant investment in the memorial and underlines our commitment to preserving local heritage and fostering community pride. The restoration will play a key role in ensuring the future of this historic building for the community and generations to come.”
Upon completion of the works, the Dingwall Community Development Company will take possession of the memorial tower and oversee the asset.
