ARDGAY Station in the Highlands is set to undergo significant improvements in a £1.5 million project.
The Network Rail project will see a full platform renewal, which will reduce its size from 194 metres to 150 metres – allowing for more efficient boarding and helping to improve overall train punctuality.Tactile paving will also be installed to support visually impaired passengers.
Work begins on October 18 and is expected to last nine weeks. The platform will be carefully deconstructed and rebuilt in short sections, allowing the areas not under construction to remain open to passengers throughout the work.
Ian Clark, scheme project manager at Network Rail Scotland, said, “Currently, trains stop in areas that often require people to walk along the platform to board, which slows down the process. This upgrade will create a more efficient layout, allowing quicker and safer boarding as soon as the train arrives and helping to minimise delays further along the route.
“We really appreciate the patience of passengers and the local community while we carry out these improvements. It’s a vital investment in the future of Ardgay station and will ensure it remains safe, reliable and fit for purpose for years to come.”
