
MALCOLM Morrison, MD of GMG Energy, a Sutherland-based timber products company and a leading figure in range of other businesses throughout Scotland and England, has been shortlisted for Business Leader of the Year at the 2025 Highland Business Awards.
The awards, which will be announced in Inverness on Friday 26 September, will see Malcolm competing in the category alongside Pentland Ferries’ MD, Helen Inkster and Fraser Campbell, MD of Cobbs Group, a hospitality retail and wholesale bakery business.
With a career spanning agriculture, banking, renewable energy, hospitality, and business advisory, Malcolm’s leadership style is said to characterised by a ‘clear sense of purpose, strategic vision, and a deep commitment to empowering others’.
As director of GMG Energy, he has built a sustainable timber products business from the ground up in Halladale, Caithness. Under his guidance, the company has embraced technology, including AI-powered security and biomass innovation, while championing environmental responsibility through zero-waste policies and active replanting efforts.
