‘Uniquely challenging’ scaffold project complete at Stirlingshire water treatment works

Touch Water Treatment JR Scaffold project

JR Scaffold has carried out what it described as a ‘uniquely challenging’ project at Touch Water Treatment Works near Cambusbarron in Stirlingshire.

The team installed intricate scaffolding around two pipe bridges to support a 10-week programme of repairs and refurbishment to the structure’s paintwork and fabric.

JR Scaffold took on the task on behalf of civil engineering contractor George Leslie and Scottish Water, erecting scaffolding around the pipe bridges located close to the four reservoirs up on the remote Touch Hill facility.

The team at George Leslie created new roads leading up to the reservoirs to allow the transport of materials to and from the site, allowing the team, led by JR Scaffold’s contracts director John Jack, to complete the installation.

The scaffolding around each bridge was installed by a team of three scaffolders, taking approximately two weeks per bridge to erect due to the ‘particularly exceptional’ nature of the job and remote location.

The team worked with pontoon company Coastworks to erect the scaffolding around one of the bridges, using a pontoon over the water to act as a working platform and to allow the team to install the designed beam work to the underside of the structure.

JR Scaffold was able to erect the scaffolding directly to the second bridge straight off the nearby embankment, ensuring both bridges were appropriately covered in the framework to allow the refurbishment to be completed.

John Jack said, “Due to the remote location and unusual shape of the pipe bridges above water, this was a fascinating project to work on and complete but one we had some relevant experience in so was great to work on. We’re thrilled to see that this was another successful project with our friends at George Leslie and we hope we can continue our great working relationship with them for a long time.”
