THREE major projects have been completed with the aim of protecting Moray coastal communities from the threat of erosion.
A 50cm shingle bank has been built in Kingston, between Lein Car Park on the west side of the village, and the main shingle ridge at the lagoon on the east side.
Meanwhile, rock armour has been put in place on Findhorn Road, following ‘significant’ coastal erosion last year. Coastal monitoring stations have also been installed at a number of locations across Moray, allowing residents to take photos of the coastline for monitoring purposes.
Chair of the economic development and infrastructure services committee at Moray Council, councillor Marc Macrae, said, “These projects are important steps forward in ensuring the long-term protection of our costal communities; and are examples of the ongoing work to tackle the serious issue of coastal erosion across Moray.
“It’s vital that we continue to adapt and respond to the challenges posed by coastal changes and these measures are an important part of that process.”
