MORRISON Community Care (CCG3) Holdco has completed the purchase of land at Greenbank Parish Church in Clarkston, paving the way for a new 50-bedroom care home.
Proposals for the redevelopment of land adjacent to the church on Eaglesham Road were approved in 2023. The completion of the land purchase enables CCG to begin construction later this year, and the church to move forward with plans to create new halls and community facilities.
Dubbed as the Legacy Project, the redevelopment of Greenbank Parish Church is tipped to provide an opportunity to enhance and extend the existing community facilities at the heart of Clarkston, while also preserving the listed church building.
A new extension, designed to complement the existing sanctuary in scale and selection of materials, will be added to the southern part of the building. It aims to provide a welcoming, flexible space, containing a south facing entrance, sports hall, multi-purpose room, meeting space, kitchen facilities, and toilets.
Morrison Community Care Group (MCCG) has worked with CCG (Scotland) since 2017, setting up their joint venture company in 2021. Since then, the firms have completed two care homes in Fife and West Lothian and have four projects under construction – delivering 234 bed spaces for the elderly – across Scotland’s central belt.
Morrison Community Care Group MD, Paul Sokhi, said, “In the time that it has taken to secure this land, Morrison Community Care Group has expanded into England and Ireland, whilst our joint venture with CCG has delivered a number of developments across Scotland. It’s been a long process for everyone involved, but the result is ultimately a positive one for the Church and the Clarkston community.
“Not only are we addressing localised demand for modern, residential care accommodation and alleviating pressure on our NHS, we are also helping to stimulate employment with the creation of up to 100 jobs. Furthermore, giving the church the means to invest and upgrade their facilities will ensure it will continue to serve its congregation and the wider community for many years to come. I give thanks to the church, East Renfrewshire Council, and the efforts of the MCCG team during this process and look forward to seeing works begin very soon.”
The Greenbank Care Home will offer 24/7 residential, nursing and dementia care services, as well as integrated amenities including private en-suite bedrooms, dining areas, a hair salon, and cinema. The care home will also have a specially-designed layout to mitigate the spread of viruses.
CCG will work alongside a design team that includes Holmes Miller, Cowal Design Consultants, Design Me, and CRGP Surveyors.
CCG MD David Wylie said, “CCG has worked with MCCG for almost a decade. Through our combined development and construction capabilities, we have delivered transformative projects across the country, and we are extremely proud to now bring this collective expertise to Clarkston – a well-established community that we look forward to joining later this year.”
