New resource looks to support Shetland Islands construction sector

A new resource has been created by Shetland Islands Council to help the local construction industry find housing work opportunities.

The launch of the new dedicated website comes as part of the Future Housing joint initiative between the local authority and Hjaltland Housing Association and follows a successful meeting with industry representatives in April.

The website features information on upcoming events, minutes and reports from previous meetings, information on programmes of work, and contracts, as well as links to the Procurement Contracts Scotland website and other useful areas such as Business Gateway.

Businesses can sign up to a mailing list to receive details on training, events, and other opportunities by emailing future.housing@shetland.gov.uk and providing their company name and email address.

The next Future Housing meeting will take place from 3pm to 5pm on October 23 at Room 16 Islesburgh Centre, Lerwick and industry representatives are encouraged to attend to discuss next steps. Anyone wishing to attend should email future.housing@shetland.gov.uk no later than Friday 11th October 2024

Dennis Leask, chair of Shetland Island Council’s development committee, said, “Communication is a vital part of making this initiative work as we all strive towards the goal of providing affordable housing as well as making sure that our existing stock is maintained to a high standard. I would encourage any business with an interest in the housing industry to attend the next event and share your views.”
