THE new National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC) president Colin McCorquodale has set out his key priorities after being elected the trade body’s 57th president.

Colin, of Glasgow-based Archibald McCorquodale & Son Ltd, was elected at the federation’s recent AGM. He revealed he is proud of the hard work NFRC has undertaken to streamline member access to services like technical documents, events, and general assistance in recent years.

“As president, I will be supporting the excellent work of the NFRC team as we continue this journey,” he said.

Digitalisation, including the imminent launch of a bespoke customer relationship management system, will be a vital part of the drive to increase member engagement. Colin also referenced the implementation of regional business plans and the ongoing Governance Review as significant initiatives to ‘equip NFRC to meet the needs of our members’.

Colin intends to ‘work collaboratively across the organisation by effectively chairing the board and supporting James (Talman, NFRC Group CEO) and the team to deliver the strategic objectives of NFRC’. He will also focus on the board’s visibility to improve ‘the attractiveness of board involvement’.

Colin’s family has a long history of working within the roofing industry and among various trade associations.

“Trade association involvement runs deep with our family,” he said. “My brother, Gavin, and I, as well as our father and grandfather, have been presidents of the Scottish Master Slaters and Roof Tilers Association, so it is definitely an honour to be president of a national association.”

Colin’s company, Archibald McCorquodale & Son Ltd, which he runs with Gavin, was established by the brothers’ great-grandfather in 1911.

As is traditional for incoming presidents, Colin has nominated a charity for NFRC to focus efforts towards supporting. The charity is the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. Colin said, “We will be making the most of certain events to help raise money for this very worthwhile charity which is fighting a condition with no cure and one which has had a direct impact on my wider family.”

Colin takes over the presidency from Mark Mitchell, director of Jarvis and Womack Ltd, who will now serve an additional two years on the board as immediate past president.

Andy Rowlands, MD of Rowlands Roofing, was elected vice president.
