EAST Lothian Council has launched a new initiative to support local trades and construction firms in bidding for contracts in the region.

Coming as part of the local authority’s community wealth building initiative, the council will work jointly with partner agencies to help build the East Lothian economy and support local firms.

Angela Lamont, the council’s new economic development community wealth building (CWB) officer, will support trades and construction firms with procurement opportunities, as well as businesses in the energy efficiency, retrofit, and decarbonisation sectors.

Councillor John McMillan, East Lothian Council spokesperson for economic development, said, “Angela Lamont is our new CWB officer and she is looking to engage with local firms in this sector to support them understand East Lothian Council’s procurement processes.

“Buyers publish opportunities on Public Contract Scotland (PCS) so businesses need to be registered on PCS to become aware of and bid for opportunities. These can include participation in National Frameworks for all Scottish local authorities. We’re keen to support East Lothian businesses, our communities and local economy through the community wealth building programme.

“Community wealth building aims to link local suppliers to local contracts, so I would encourage people to get in touch. The frameworks that are appearing could offer some really good opportunities and I’m keen to provide support.”

East Lothian Council is also hosting a Business Gateway East Lothian workshop at John Muir House, Haddington on Wednesday August 21 from 9.30-12.30 where procurement will be explained and advice and support provided on completing bids.
