DOORS and windows manufacturer Origin has unveiled its new in-house powder coating facility.
Described as a ‘monumental and powerful statement’ for its long-term product quality and operations, Origin added that it now has complete control over the entire manufacturing process.
The 64,000 sq ft facility in Bicester, located next to its raw material hub, boasts £3 million of equipment.
Origin explained the new approach begins with a four-stage mechanical cleaning process. The company’s linishing machine utilises air, water, and adjustable brushes to eliminate imperfections from the aluminium profile. This stage increases the quality of material and is said to ensure a ‘pristine’ surface, ready for the ten-stage chrome-free, pre-treatment process. To meet all customer requirements, Origin will offer Class 1, 2 or 3 powder. This, the company explained, ensures the finish on its profile and hinges is ‘superior in corrosion resistance, durability, and aesthetics’. Additionally, textured finishes are available to expand design possibilities.
Origin’s in-house laboratory will continuously conduct tests to check the powder coating’s integrity.
This investment means Origin gains increased independence from external powder coaters. With Origin having full control, lead times to all colours can be reduced. And as profile will be painted on demand and will be of ‘straight to line quality’, it minimises the risk of damage during storage or transport.
“At Origin, we are relentless in our pursuit of perfection,” said MD Daniel Baker. “The launch of our in-house powder coating facility represents a significant leap forward in achieving this goal. By taking complete control of the process, from raw material to finished product, we can manufacture the most exquisite and durable doors and windows in the world.”
