TENANTS in Edinburgh’s Muirhouse are to receive new doors and windows in a £1.5 million boost for their homes.
Work is underway on the project, which will take place over the next five years across approximately 185 homes and common stairwells.
The new windows and doors from Sidey are designed to improve the warmth and overall appearance of the stock and ensure the association continues to deliver on its commitment to provide high quality homes.
Muirhouse chief executive Susan Bell said, “We are delighted to be delivering such a significant doors and windows improvement programme over the next five years which will continue our ongoing commitment to investing in our tenants’ homes. We are delighted to have awarded the contract – procured via the Procurement for Housing Scotland Framework – to Sidey who have an impressive track record in working with housing providers across Scotland.”
Glenn Rivers, Muirhouse Housing Association’s asset manager, added, “We are pleased to be installing high specification triple glazed windows which will improve the energy efficiency of the homes. The first programme of works costing £300,000 has recently begun in what is our biggest-ever commitment to improving Muirhouse’s homes.”
A Community Benefits Commitment has been included in the contract and will be used to benefit organisations and projects intended to enhance the local community.
Sidey is committed to ensuring there is 100% recycling of all waste, from design to installation. Through the Muirhouse contract it is anticipated there will be 11 tons of waste recycled per year.
Stuart Holligan, Sidey’s business development manager, said, “Sidey is excited to partner with Muirhouse Housing Association on this significant project to enhance its housing stock for tenants. We are proud to supply and install high-quality, energy-efficient products that will positively impact Muirhouse tenants’ lives. Once finalised, we look forward to delivering various community benefits which are a core value at Sidey.”
