BAM Construction has been appointed by hub South West and South Lanarkshire Council to build the new £23.9 million Larkhall Leisure Centre.
The project team also features Wallace Whittle, Holmes Miller, and Blyth and Blyth, with the local authority saying that the firms have an ‘excellent’ track record working with BAM.
The new facility will be built to Passivhaus standards to meet energy efficiency targets which the council said will provide ‘significant’ carbon and revenue savings for the new Larkhall Leisure Centre.
Shaun Sands, programme director at hub South West Scotland, said, “hub South West are delighted to partner with South Lanarkshire Council again in developing the new Larkhall Leisure Centre.
“We look forward to working with the community in developing this new state-of-the-art leisure facility that will also work towards achieving the councils net zero targets.”
Jim Ward, regional director at BAM Construction Limited, added, “We are looking forward to working with hub Southwest and South Lanarkshire Council and we will deliver a quality project for the community of Larkhall. We are excited about the environmental benefits this project will bring through energy efficiency standards which will deliver significant carbon and revenue savings.”
Alison Brown, the council’s head of enterprise and sustainable development, said, “As previously reported, the council had secured this funding to construct the new leisure facility. I am now delighted to be able to say that following the appointment of BAM Construction, enabling work is now scheduled to get underway in spring 2025 with the main construction work commencing in late 2025 and completing in 2027.
“Now that the project team has been formally appointed, they will be looking at opportunities to maximise the space within the available budget, which will be subject to engagement with the local community in the coming months.”
