A Killearn women and girls’ rugby squad has received a new kit ahead of the new season thanks to Cala Homes (West).
The housebuilder, which is set to start construction on its Ballagan Woods development in Killearn, has gifted Strathendrick Rugby Club’s complete women and girl’s section a donation of £3,000 to fund their new look as part of its Community Pledge initiative.
Strathendrick RFC’S women’s senior team and all under-12 girl’s teams have new kits with the Cala logo placed front and centre of the shirts.
The club, which is based in Fintry, Stirlingshire, play almost every weekend from September to April in both league and developmental matches, and until Cala’s sponsorship, the women and girls’ teams were wearing strips that had previously been used by the men’s and boys’ youth teams, which were well worn and ill-fitting.
Working with Macron, the club has created designs to suit females as previously acquiring female cut clothing has not been as straightforward as purchasing men’s kits.
Steven McCooey, coach at Strathendrick RFC, said, “Thanks to Cala’s generous donation, the women’s and all of the girl’s teams now have a kit of their own. We’ve worked in close partnership with Macron to make sure that the kits are better suited, and the players are over the moon with the results.
“Unfortunately, unisex clothing just doesn’t do the job, so we are thrilled to now be able to offer specially designed kits to all our female players. In my opinion, it’s rather groundbreaking.”
Hannah Ireland, marketing manager at Cala Homes (West), added, “Our Community Pledge, which is now rolled out across all of our new developments, exists to support the local communities in which we build so we are proud to be able to support Strathendrick Rugby Club and see the benefit this donation brings to their women’s senior team and the girl’s teams under 12.
“I was able to attend their recent presentation and it was a privilege to be there and meet the players, we wish them all luck for the next season.”
