Mac Mic Group, the family-owned property, land, and investment company, gearing up for its 100th anniversary in 2025, has announced a £15,000 donation to five charities.
In line with its dedication to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, the business has pledged 2% of its net annual profit, or a minimum of £70,000, to charitable giving through Mac Mic Foundation.
The recipient charities are as follows:
Centrepoint – works with homeless young people and young people at risk of homelessness, offering them a safe place to stay and support to find a job and a home in across England.
1625 Independent People – the south west’s largest youth homeless charity, supporting over 1,600 of the most vulnerable young people in the region every year.
South & East Bristol Foodbank – provides three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people in crisis in Bristol.
Glasgow Street Aid – a volunteer-led charity that provides pre-hospital medical and welfare assistance on the streets of Glasgow’s city centre.
Kindness Homeless Street Team Glasgow – a charity dedicated to supporting and lifting people out of poverty in Glasgow and surrounding areas.
Mac Mic Group’s commitment to helping combat homelessness is a long-standing tradition, championed by the company’s founders. The Mickel Fund, a registered charity established and led by the Mickel family, has a legacy of impactful work supporting homelessness spanning five decades.
Andrew Mickel, director of Mac Mic Group, said, “These charities deliver incredible work, making a positive impact on the lives of those they support, offering them a lifeline when they need it most. The dedication of the people who deliver these services, in many cases on a voluntary basis, is truly inspiring.
“We know that charities like Glasgow Street Aid and Centrepoint rely on donations to keep providing critical support to vulnerable people. When the Mac Mic Foundation Employee Panel championed these donations, the group board were delighted to give them our full support. We encourage others to join us in supporting these vital organisations.”
The donations were warmly received by the charities. John Thornfield, from 1625 Independent People, said, “Mac Mic’s generous donation will support our charity to provide stable housing, skills development, and improved wellbeing to young people whose lives have been impacted by trauma, instability, and family breakdown. Thank you for your support!”
Becky Blair, from Glasgow Street Aid, added, “We are a small Glasgow-based charity of volunteers who are doing what we can to provide medical and welfare assistance to those in need in Glasgow City Centre each weekend. Thank you so much for this amazing and much needed donation.”
Yi Zhou, from Centrepoint, said, “We provide accommodation, education, and training support to young people to empower them into a better future. In these challenging times, donations like yours will help give a young person safety, stability, and freedom, so thank you for your support!”
Carol Murray, from Kindness Homeless Street Team Glasgow, commented, “Each week we hand out around 90 food parcels and feed around 200 people a hot meal at our pop-up soup kitchen. We also supply clothing, toiletries, and furniture to those that need it. The demand for our services has increased dramatically over the last few months. Your support means so much to us.”
