ROBERTSON Construction Northern has been awarded the contract for the build of a new ferry terminal building in Uig on the Isle of Skye.
Forming part of a wider Highland Council project to develop Uig Harbour, works on the construction of the terminal building are due to commence in early summer with a completion in spring 2025.
Robertson Construction Northern regional MD, Ian Phillips, said, “The new ferry terminal is a great investment, and one that will bring real benefits to the local community long before it opens. We know the local supply chain well, and in line with our responsible business approach, we will be maximising opportunities for local businesses and people to ensure that we deliver both social and economic benefits for Uig and the surrounding area.
“I have no doubt that together with The Highland Council, we will deliver a project that meets the needs of both residents and visitors alike.”
Highland Council economy and infrastructure committee chair, councillor Ken Gowans, said, “The Uig redevelopment project is progressing well, and I’m sure a new modern ferry terminal will be welcomed by everyone using the facilities.
“We wish the awarded contractor – Robertson every success with the build and look forward to receiving regular project updates. A Highland based contractor successfully being awarded the contract is beneficial to the circular economy of the Highlands and will offer opportunity for local employment. This in-line with our Community Wealth Building policy.”
