Cala and Celeros FT secure planning permission for 254 homes in Cathcart

CALA Management Limited, together with Celeros Flow Technology, has secured planning permission from Glasgow City Council to deliver 254 new homes in Cathcart, in Glasgow’s southside.

The Foundry will include a selection of one, two, and three-bedroom apartments, as well as two and three-bedroom penthouses across the 5.87-acre site that is currently owned by Celeros FT.

Previously used for its ClydeUnion Pumps factory, Celeros FT chose Cala Homes (West) as its residential partner of choice in October 2022 to develop surplus land. Cala Management Limited will now transform the vacant, brownfield site and help address demand for new homes in the city.

Representing approximately £61 million of investment from the housebuilder, The Foundry will feature green space and communal, landscaped spaces for residents to enjoy, as well as a play park.

Cala said ‘thorough’ consideration to biodiversity and sustainability is reflected in the design of the site, with homes powered by ground source heat pumps and the opportunity for EV charging points to be installed at various locations.

An independent economic impact assessment highlighted that during the construction phase, approximately 133 direct jobs will be created, while a further 123 roles will be indirectly supported. Approximately £380,000 additional council tax revenue to Glasgow City Council will be generated, whilst new capital spend from local residents is projected to be £5.7 million.

Moray Stewart, land director at Cala Homes (West), said, “Securing planning permission from Glasgow City Council represents a significant milestone for Cala Management Limited as we continue our vision to enhance urban communities with high-quality homes, and it is also a significant investment for Celeros FT. Glasgow’s southside is an established residential area, with continued, strong demand for new housing options which The Foundry will help to deliver.”

Chris McVicker, chief financial officer for Celeros FT, added, “It’s fantastic that the go-ahead has now been given to this new development, which will bring much needed new homes and jobs to the southside of Glasgow. Unlocking this surplus land will enable us to continue to invest in new opportunities for the business and the local economy, building on a heritage of over 135 years of design and manufacturing of pump equipment in Cathcart.

“Innovation has always been key to our success as a business and we are delighted to support Cala’s plans to build a pioneering residential development on this brownfield site, which has biodiversity and sustainability at its heart.”
