CIVIL, structural and conservation engineering specialist Will Rudd Davidson has appointed two new directors in its Edinburgh practice, through the internal promotions of Alan Lamb and Even Sørgjerd.

Alan, a chartered structural engineer and SER certifier of design, joined the firm as a graduate engineer 16 years ago. His experience spans commercial and residential developments; educational buildings design; redevelopment and refurbishment of historical buildings; as well as drainage infrastructure and road design, bridge engineering and the design of large temporary works.

He said, “I feel hugely privileged and proud of having been asked to take on the role of Director at Will Rudd. I joined the firm straight from university and I have always been in awe of the WRD directors for their extensive technical knowledge; ability to run large teams and, importantly, their energy in promoting the company within the industry and supporting their staff. I feel honoured that the current directors have seen some of these same qualities in me.”

With a focus on structural and civil engineering design and technical review, Even, who joined the practice in 2016, has become an ‘integral’ part of the Will Rudd team, managing a team of engineers and technicians and acting as client liaison. In addition to being a chartered structural engineer, Even is a SER certifier of design.

Even said, “I am delighted to be offered this opportunity. The challenges associated with achieving net zero targets mean that there is now a much greater emphasis on the re-use of the existing built environment. What first attracted me to Will Rudd was its track record in this area. Working with our tremendously talented team and with our collaborators and clients across the industry, Will Rudd offers solutions to address some of the climate challenges. It is extremely satisfying to be working on refurbishment and heritage projects—projects that will improve our clients’ building stock and the lives of residents and the public at large.”

The appointments are said to come at a busy time for the consultancy. Among the firm’s projects are the Laidlaw Music Centre at the University of St Andrews; regeneration of the-A listed Old Royal Infirmary for the University of Edinburgh’s Future Institute; and the ongoing refurbishment of the King’s Theatre in Edinburgh. Current housing projects include developments at Powderhall, a regeneration site; and also new housing on the site of the former Silverlea Care Home at Muirhouse, Edinburgh.

Gillian Ogilvie, MD of Will Rudd in Edinburgh, said, “I am delighted that Alan and Even are stepping up to directorships in the practice. Both have been key players in the Will Rudd team for some time and their appointment helps us strengthen the management team and build on our current successes.

“Looking to the future we are delighted to be bringing through the next generation of directors to ensure Will Rudd continues to be a practice that cultivates and develops its staff to fulfil their potential. Alan’s background in housebuilding and civil engineering allows us to develop that part of the business further. Even comes with a proven track record of delivering complex and varied projects and will further enhance our ability to deliver technically challenging sites for our clients.”
