TWO teams from Taylor Wimpey West Scotland have raised a combined £3,488 for charity after taking part in the annual Taylor Wimpey Challenge.
333 of the housebuilder’s employees, across 54 teams, headed to the Black Mountains in Wales to tackle an 11, 20 or 31-mile hike to raise money for the Youth Adventure Trust, as well as a number of local charities around the UK.
Taylor Wimpey has supported the Youth Adventure Trust (YAT) since 2014. This year’s challenge raised over £140,000 for the charity, which uses outdoor adventure to inspire vulnerable youngsters aged 11-16.
The two teams from Taylor Wimpey West Scotland – who tackled the 31-mile route – also raised funds for St Vincent’s Hospice which has personal connections to participants. They donated 50% of their fundraising total to the hospice, amounting to over £1,700.
St. Vincent’s Hospice in Renfrewshire provides access to care and support to people living with a life-limiting illness in Renfrewshire and North Ayrshire. The hospice has an eight-bed inpatient unit with multi-disciplinary team; a day hospice service providing support with symptom management, and community nurse specialists to provide care and support at home. It also provides a range of supportive services to patients and their families.
The hospice’s corporate manager Emma Donald said, “We were delighted to be one of the chosen charities and overwhelmed by the generosity of the teams. Taylor Wimpey West Scotland’s ongoing support of the hospice ensures we are there for the families of Renfrewshire and North Ayrshire when they need us the most – thank you to everyone involved.”
Stuart Rowan, site manager for Taylor Wimpey West Scotland at Oakwood Grove in Hamilton and captain of one of the teams, added, “The Taylor Wimpey Challenge is now an established annual event that has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for fantastic causes, including the Youth Adventure Trust. While this year’s trek was tough, it was a great opportunity to bond with each other and it’s very rewarding knowing that our efforts have helped to raise so much money for charities that are very much in need of support, including St Vincent’s Hospice which has a very special place in the hearts of many within our west Scotland business.”
