LOANHEAD Children’s Gala Day has welcomed a £500 donation from Dandara Scotland.

The money will be used to sponsor an afternoon of entertainment on Sunday June 18, which will include a dance show from Gemini Pom Pom Troupe and a concert from award-winning youth band, Loanhead Brass Roots, all taking place on Fountain Green in the centre of Loanhead from 2pm.

The event will be one of the highlights of the annual Gala Week, which will also feature a dog show, a fun run, football and bowling competitions, children’s races and a promenade concert.

The celebrations culminate in the Children’s Gala Day on Saturday June 24, which features the crowning of the School Queen Amy McWilliams, street processions, traditional ceremonies and a wide range of family entertainment.

Founded in 1903, Loanhead Children’s Gala Day is one of Scotland’s oldest and largest traditional children’s galas.

Ross Perfect, chairman of the Loanhead Gala Day committee, said, “We are most grateful to Dandara and all the other businesses which have sponsored events during Gala Week, allowing us to provide a wide range of free activities for everyone to enjoy.”

Claire Bathgate of Dandara Scotland, which is building a range of new homes nearby at its Ashgrove development, commented, “The people of Loanhead have always been so welcoming to us and to the new residents at Ashgrove and we are once again delighted to be one of the sponsors of the Gala Day. It is a great community event and I am sure will be a tremendous success.”
