ROBERTSON Construction has completed the £16 million build of Milltimber Primary School in Aberdeen.
The school officially opened its doors to pupils and staff this morning, with construction having first commenced in autumn 2020.
Militimber Primary School has capacity for 434 pupils, which is an increase from the 267 the previous school accommodated. It also has space for an additional 60 early learning and childcare places.
Described as ‘state-of-the-art’ by Aberdeen City Council, the school offers ‘enhanced’ outdoor spaces and PE facilities to promote health, fitness, and wellbeing, as well as improved opportunities for outdoor curricular learning and social interaction.
Kevin Dickson, regional MD at Robertson Construction, said, “Milltimber Primary School will be an excellent addition to the Council’s education portfolio. We are continuing our strong working relationship with Aberdeen City Council which is seeing further improvements across the education estate.
“I am confident that the pupils and school user groups will be delighted with the quality and high specification that has been delivered.”
The project comes as part of three further new school builds in the city at Countesswells, Riverbank, and Torry which are set to open in 2023. They form part of the council’s £100 million education new build programme.
Aberdeen City Council educational vice convener, councillor Jessica Mennie, said, “The completion of the school marks the latest milestone in our expansion programme. Having the very best facilities available is vital to our ambitious strategy around education delivery in Aberdeen – but the leadership team, staff and pupils are the most important part of the success.”
Lynsey Cradock, headteacher at Millitimber Primary School, added, “This facility will provide a wonderful learning environment for our pupils which will enable them to grow, achieve and succeed not only now but also in the future. With all our wonderful facilities, we can truly become the heart of the community.”
