Construction underway on new Penicuik homes

HOUSEBUILDER Taylor Wimpey has confirmed construction is underway at its Greenlaw Mains development in Penicuik, which will bring 221 new homes to the Midlothian town.

The development will be delivered over two phases and will provide a wide range of homes, play spaces for children, and the associated infrastructure required for a project of this scale.

Taylor Wimpey said this latest phase of new homes forms a ‘key part’ of the masterplan development to deliver 477 new homes in total, all set on the outskirts of Penicuik. Two phases are already completed, while a third is said to be progressing well.

Pauline Mills, land and planning director for Taylor Wimpey East Scotland, said, “We are very pleased to get construction underway at Greenlaw Mains which reinforces our longstanding commitment to our impressive development in Penicuik, and supports our wider involvement in the Midlothian area. As one of the largest housebuilders in the UK, we are committed to building more than homes and making sure that we add social, economic and environmental value to the wider communities that we operate in.

“This includes supporting over 160 jobs per year of construction, as well as the attraction of new customers to local businesses from those who choose to live in one of the new homes this development aims to deliver. As well as a great choice of new homes, starting this development will allow us to provide continuity of build from our existing development at Greenlaw Mill, and continue to deliver on a range of economic benefits for the local area including our contributions of over £4.6 million towards improvements to education, community facilities, sporting provision and transport upgrades.”
