Firms near completion of 90 East Renfrewshire Council homes

THE keys to 90 new East Renfrewshire Council homes are to be begin being handed over in the coming months, the local authority has announced.

It comes following the completion of 39 council houses at Taylor Wimpey’s Maidenhill development last year, with a further 43 homes set to be handed over throughout the summer.

New tenants will also be moving into the Balgraystone Road development in Barrhead this spring which is being delivered in partnership with CCG. It is the Council’s largest new-build project to date with 47 properties consisting of 6 one-and-two-bedroom wheelchair adaptable flats, 12 two-bedroom flats and 29 three-and-four-bedroom terraced houses.

The homes have been constructed using the contractor’s enhanced iQ timber system, which the council said results in a ‘vast’ reduction in heat loss with lower energy demand contributing to lowering carbon emissions and generating annualised savings on energy bills.

Alison Henderson, special projects manager at Taylor Wimpey West Scotland, said, “The completion and handover of the first 39 affordable homes for social rent at Maidenhill in 2021 was the result of true partnership working and delivery between ourselves and the local authority. Those first handovers form part of our wider agreement to deliver a total of 82 affordable homes for social rent, as well as 20 homes across the development which will be provided at a reduced market value as part of our affordable home obligation.

“In overall terms the Maidenhill development is bringing significant investment and creating local jobs across the area, including some exciting opportunities for young apprentices, and we’ll continue to work closely with East Renfrewshire Council and the local community to ensure Newton Mearns reaps the benefits of our long-term investment in the area.”

CCG MD, David Wylie, added, “Balgraystone Road is a fantastic development of 43 affordable, highly-energy efficient homes and we look forward to bringing the project to a close this spring and welcoming the new residents. We give thanks to East Renfrewshire Council for their support during the construction programme and look forward to working with them again in the near future.”

East Renfrewshire Council housing and maintenance convener, Danny Devlin, commented, “Balgraystone Road is the largest housing development we’ve taken on to date and will soon provide much-needed homes to individuals and families. Last year, with Taylor Wimpey, we completed our first new-build homes in Newton Mearns for a generation and I am really pleased that the next phases will provide more new homes this summer.”
