hub West Scotland launches fourth annual Winter Warmer Appeal with PEEK

HUB West Scotland has launched its fourth Winter Warmer Appeal alongside charity partner PEEK (Possibilities for Each and Every Kid).

It comes as figures show that one in three children in Glasgow are living in poverty and won’t have the appropriate clothing required to keep warm.

As a result, the partners are asking Glaswegians, firms, and its supply chain partners to donate as many new winter jackets and wellington boots as possible to PEEK.

In order for PEEK to get the items to those who are most in need of them, it is required that donations be made by Friday 10 December 2021.

PEEK works hard to improve the life chances of children and young people living in Glasgow, with the Winter Warmer Appeal generating a fantastic response each year.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the appeal will take the same approach as last year: new winter jackets and wellington boots can be purchased online and sent straight to the team at PEEK’s headquarters: The Legacy Hub, 301 Springfield Road, Glasgow, G40 3LJ.

A JustGiving page has also been set up so people and companies can donate directly to the appeal. 100% of the money raised will be used by PEEK to purchase warm clothing and boots for those children that need it right across the city. The JustGiving page can be accessed by clicking here.

Michaela Collins, CEO of PEEK, said, “Last year a lot of the families we support were just coping. This Winter, in addition to the pandemic continuing to have an impact on household incomes and health, we are seeing families choose between fuel and food this Winter. A winter jacket might seem like an essential item but will be beyond the reach of many families we support, especially this year. Please do what you can to make a real difference to children living in poverty in Glasgow by donating to hub West Scotland’s Winter Warmer Appeal.”

Iain Marley, chief executive of hub West Scotland, added, “Each year our Winter Warmer Appeal reaches out to friends, partners and people who recognise the incredibly important and valuable work done by PEEK within our communities. This is the fourth year of the appeal and the need has never been greater. The pandemic has created great challenges for families so please be as generous as you can and help us make a real difference by providing winter clothing for those who need it most. Last year many Christmas parties were cancelled, and the funds were generously re-directed to help PEEK and it would be fantastic if similar gestures were possible this year.”

Nancy Clunie, headteacher of Dalmarnock Primary School, commented, “The practical support of giving children and families new winter jackets and new wellington boots last year meant that children could access school and play whilst staying warm and dry. The support from PEEK and hub West Scotland is invaluable and this year especially so with so many families suffering financially from the impact of Covid.”
