Christmas appeal ‘urgently’ seeks more help to provide vital items for children

HUB West Scotland has provided an update at the midway point of it fourth annual appeal for winter clothing for children living in poverty in Glasgow.

The organisation revealed that some ‘fantastic contributions’ have been received so far for the Winter Warmer Appeal, run alongside charity partner PEEK (Possibilities for Each and Every Kid), which helps to raise money to buy new winter jackets and wellington boots for those most in need of them.

hub West is now ‘urgently’ requesting more help to reach as many children as possible this year. The appeal closes on Friday 10th December 2021 to ensure the items can reach the children before the schools close for the Christmas holidays.

Angeline Robertson, partnership director at hub West Scotland, said, “We appreciate that there are a lot of great charities seeking your support at this time of year. Our appeal provides essential items to directly to our local children and we really need your help to reach as many as we can.”

Michaela Collins, CEO of Peek, said this year’s demand is even higher than usual. “A winter jacket might seem like an essential item but will be beyond the reach of many families we support, especially this year,” she explained. “This winter, in addition to the pandemic continuing to have an impact on household incomes and health, we are seeing families forced to choose between fuel and food.

“Sadly, children always fall through the cracks. There needs to be people to pick them up, love them and support them. But ultimately, what’s needed is money directly in pockets. PEEK heavily rely on these donations. Every pound and penny goes directly to the children in need. Please do what you can to make a real difference to children living in poverty in Glasgow by donating to hub West Scotland’s Winter Warmer Appeal.”

PEEK works to improve the life chances of children and young people living in the Glasgow area.

A JustGiving page has been set up to allow people and companies to donate directly to the appeal. 100% of the money raised will be used by PEEK to purchase warm clothing and boots for children who need it across the city. The JustGiving page can be found at www.justgiving.com/hubwestwinterwarmer2021
