Housebuilder’s donation to allow charity to offer regular activities for community

A Loanhead-based volunteer group has welcomed a generous donation from Dandara East Scotland which will allow local school pupils to develop new skills at a weekly youth group.

The £1,000 donation was made to Growing Families from the housebuilder, which is behind the new homes at Ashgrove on St Margaret’s Avenue.

The group organises fun after-school activities for children and parents in the local community garden, where they can get involved in ‘muddy Mondays’ and ‘messy play’. As well as activities for children, the initiative also offers pre and postnatal mental health support groups for new mothers and also supports the Midlothian Breastfeed support group.

Lisa Archibald, head of sales at Dandara, commented, “Supporting local community projects where we build new homes is very important to us. The work that Growing Families is doing within the Loanhead community is incredible and this project is one that we are happy to help with.”

Poppy Kyles, chair of Growing Families, added, “We are proud to be able to offer a youth club for local children in Loanhead. We have only been able to offer limited sessions throughout the last year, but thanks to Dandara’s donation, we will be able to deliver regular sessions at our Loanhead site.”
