Builder delivers cash boost for Glasgow east end community groups

THREE community groups in Glasgow’s east end have received a welcome cash boost thanks to a link-up between construction firm Cruden and Thenue Housing.

Cruden is currently building 77 new homes for rent for Thenue in Abercromby Street. As part of winning the contract to create the properties, the company pledged to deliver a series of community benefits.

The three groups who will share in Cruden’s £5,000 donation are: The Kindness Project (£2,000), North East Recovery Community (£2,000), and We Are With You (formerly known as Addaction – £1,000).

The Kindness Project provides relief to Glasgow’s homeless community, North East Recovery helps women to recover from addiction and runs a regular café in Calton, while We Are With You also helps people recover from addiction issues with an emphasis on wellbeing.

Charles Turner, chief executive of Thenue Housing, said, “We are delighted that three organisations which do such vital work in the east end are recipients of Cruden’s financial support. This money will undoubtedly help them continue the essential role they perform in our community.”

Gordon Lee from Cruden Building added, “Cruden is proud to build communities and not just new homes. As well as providing energy-efficient, affordable housing, it’s a privilege to provide support to each of these local groups, whose important work is making such a difference to the community.”

Georgie McConnell of We Are With You commented, “We very grateful for the grant and will be using it to support our community gardening project known as Roots to Recovery. We set up the Roots garden project to offer people in recovery access to nature, horticulture and community. Thank you so much.”
