Pupils to help decide how to spend builder’s donation

HART Builders has donated £2,000 to Ayton Primary School, which is based close to where the firm is currently building phase one of a new housing development for Berwickshire Housing Association.

Hart said the move is part of the company’s commitment to investing in the local community.

The school’s headteacher, Chris Reid, explained that pupils will be involved in choosing which improvements or additions could be made with the cash.

Gill Henry, business development director of Hart Builders, said, “Hart Builders, as part of the Cruden Group, ensures that all developments support the local community, and on this development in Beanburn, we are delighted to offer a donation to Ayton Primary School.  We are especially delighted that the children themselves are involved in choosing how to use it to enhance their experience at school.”

The Beanburn project is the fifth to be delivered by Hart Builders in partnership with Berwickshire Housing Association and will bring the total number of homes they have delivered jointly to 129.

The 31 new homes of phase one are due to complete this year and will provide a mix of bungalows, wheelchair accessible properties and three and four-bedroom homes.

Angela Taylor, Berwickshire Housing Association’s property director, said, “We are delighted to be working with Hart Builders and  the Scottish Government and Scottish Borders Council to provide much needed affordable housing in Ayton. It is great to see our partners, Hart Builders supporting the local community, in particular the primary school, in this way. We look forward to seeing how the donation will be used, and the ideas the children come up with.”
