CONSTRUCTION work is expected to start on the new Sacred Heart Primary School in Girvan this May, South Ayrshire Council has revealed.
Planning permission has been granted for the £4.6 million school, which will be built on the site of the existing primary. Completion is due by August 2022.
The school will have capacity for 125 pupils and feature interactive spaces to boost learning.
Project Scotland reported in October 2019 that Morrison Construction had been named preferred contractor on the project, which has been developed by South Ayrshire Council alongside hub South West.
Councillor William Grant, children and young people portfolio holder, said, “This is fantastic news for Girvan and underlines our commitment to invest in education. I know the children and staff will be eager to get back to their school, but I am sure it will be worth the wait.”
Councillor Brian McGinley, resources and performance portfolio holder, added. “As we transition out of lockdown, it’s even more important that we have learning environments that stimulate children and help close the attainment gap. I have no doubt the new Sacred Heart Primary will help us do exactly that.”
