BUILD UK has today (May 20) reported that 86% of its contractor members’ sites in England and Wales are open with an output at 75%.
The construction industry association said that members who include housebuilding in their portfolios reported that 67% of housebuilding sites in England and Wales are open, with an output of 65% – a major leap from the 29% seen four weeks ago.
However, in Scotland, only 19% of Build UK’s members reported their site to be open and output stands at 22%. The country’s first minister, Nicola Sturgeon, confirmed that on May 21, a route map will be released that will set out a ‘phased approach’ to the easing of the lockdown in Scotland.
Build UK added that members will be waiting to see if there is any change to the current restrictions of essential construction only in the country. They added that contractor members in England and Wales are beginning to bring workers back from furlough, with members, this week, on average, having 22% of their workforce on furlough – down from 30% this time last week.
