THE £110 million University of the West of Scotland (UWS) campus at Hamilton International Technology Park has opened its doors to students.
Designed by Mosaic, the 235,000 sq. ft facility is a partnership between UWS and developers HFD Property Group. The campus features specialist labs, teaching facilities and social spaces as well as a gym and student union.
Mosaic said the new campus is one of the UK’s ‘greenest’ educational environments, boasting 100% renewable power, generated through a wind farm and rainwater harvesting. Further features include a 236-capacity auditorium and a conference space for up to 128 people.
Mosaic director Neil Haining said, “The new UWS Lanarkshire Campus is truly an innovative, dynamic and collaborative university campus, filled with inspiring and flexible teaching spaces and packed with new technology. Three separate campus buildings are joined by ‘The Street’ – a well-designed bright and airy social space which provides the ideal environment for students staff and the wider public to study, relax or socialise.”
Matt Bellshaw, director at HFD Property Group added, “We are delighted to have completed this unique project and have enjoyed working closely with all of our partners to deliver a new home in Lanarkshire for UWS. Seeing the property complete and in use by students is hugely rewarding, even better is the strong positive feedback from staff and students. Unlike many developers, HFD’s role often extends beyond completion of the project, in this instance we are thrilled to continue our partnership with both UWS and Aviva into the building’s operational phase.”
